BUSINESS PROFILE: Custom Interiors Carpet One Floor & Home
Flooring business opened new location in Hutchinson a year ago
By Scott Thoma
When a business continually outgrows its building, it’s a sure sign that customers feel appreciated and satisfied. Custom Interiors Carpet One Floor & Home of Hutchinson was founded by owner Brent Posusta over 20 years ago. Every few years, the business burst its seams and a bigger place of business was necessary.
After several upgrades, the personable Posusta had a state-of-the-art 14,000 square foot building constructed in December of 2023 east of Hutchinson which features all types of tiles, hardwood, carpet and vinyl flooring, luxury walk-in showers, premier Cambria counter tops, and more.
“Excellent variety and quality of flooring to choose from. Very helpful staff. Fair prices for material and install. They have done multiple spaces in our house and we are always happy with their service,” said Mark B.
Posusta began his career working for a local flooring store in 1997. He worked for three different companies, gaining valuable experience in the flooring industry from each one.
“I was learning a lot about carpeting, hardwood and tiles,” he said.
In the early 2000s, Posusta started his own installation business out of his home outside Silver Lake. His business was basically existing out of an enclosed 6’ x 12’ work trailer.
By word of mouth, Posusta’s reputation for doing quality and timely work caught fire. He then had a 2,000-square-foot shop built on his property in 2014. His current office manager, Kathy Munson, had her office in a spare bedroom of his home.
Soon after, he outgrew that place of business and moved off his property and into a 2,500 square foot “brick and mortar” building in Silver Lake. He spent the next nine years there before again needing more space.
He more than doubled his previous building size by purchasing the former Bergmann Interiors business in Glencoe, which was a 6,000 square-foot building. With business booming, he lasted only one year there before having his current building in Hutchinson built.
A team of experienced employees, including a sales staff, office manager, operations manager and installers are eager to help beautify your home or commercial building.
“We have several people working here with 20, 30 and 40 years of experience in flooring,” said Posusta, who has 27 years of experience. “I like to hire my weaknesses. I understand that I have weaknesses, so I will hire someone with experience in that area. I do everything I can to make my team successful. I would never ask them to do anything that I wouldn’t do. I give them whatever they need to succeed. When they are successful, the company is successful. Everyone knows their job and they do it well.”
One of the favorite amenities for customers of Custom Interiors Carpet One is the space-aged room visualizer that customers can get a virtual glimpse of what a certain carpet, hardwood, vinyl or tile flooring would look like in a particular room in their home.
“If you have a photo of a room in your house, you can come in here and have the photo placed on our visualizer, then pick out a sample of a flooring and see what it would like installed in your home,” said Posusta. “Or, if you prefer, you can visualize it online at our website, too.”
Surrounding the visualizer is a wide array of flooring samples of all kinds of styles, tints and prices.
“A customer can pick out a sample of a type of hardwood, a certain tint, and what fits their budget, for example, and then can see what it would look like in the room of their choice,” Posusta explained. “They may not like the tint, so they can switch it with just the push of a button. They may want the grain to run a different direction, so they can see that, too. We have dustless hardwood and we can stain to any color the customer prefers.”
The room visualizer is a valuable tool for a customer to use, whether it’s for a commercial building or residential home, in order to see first-hand exactly what they want before it’s installed.
“We cater to anyone,” said Posusta. “We can supply and install the most budget-friendly flooring for a home you plan to flip, rental units and apartments. From the easiest of the easy to the most exquisite high-end products and technical installation in high-caliber properties you can dream of.”
